Jaja...

Hello, this is DJ BNG.

I can easily perceive that a lot of effort went into this game. Every song has its own background, the synchronization was practically perfect (exceptions: Anticipate (Crazy), was synced slightly late sometimes; Dash Hopes 3, was synced slightly early at the fastest parts), and sometimes they surprise us by suddenly changing the bar's position, still following the tempo (Monotune -respect-; Epileptic Crisis), and they are great things, that make this game even more interesting.
Everything organized in well-designed menus, with a futuristic scheme.
The choice of songs was pretty good, but not the best possible. Some songs don't fit in this "futuristic" game (Love the World and You are a joke would have fit in other games where you play like using a guitar (like Frets on Fire)). It would have been good, I think, if you added some slower-paced songs too.
The difficulty is perfectly well measured, and so are the medals (I think it would have been nicer if you added more, but nevermind).

Suggestion: In DSAH HAPOS X's speed, instead of writing "???!" you could have written "2,147,483,647", if you know what I mean with that number. Also, in its difficulty, you could have started to write "9999999..." until they are covered by the "Harder" button... Just to scare them a bit more. ;)

The only flaws this game has are in some songs' synchronizations. I played every single song in every difficulty, and found out that some notes were hard to hit properly.
So I'd like to leave a list of the little flaws some songs have, and how to beat those parts (FOR ANYONE WHO READS THIS).

Before I begin, I'd like to clarify:

- While playing in the top row:
If you can't catch a note that is just above the right red line (from the bottom row), try to catch it just a bit earlier. Examples: Anticipate's 48th note (Easy); Monotune -respect-'s 31st note (Easy).
- While playing in the bottom row:
If you can't catch a note that is just below the left red line (from the top row), try to catch it just a bit earlier.
If you can't catch a note that is over the right red line, try to catch it just a bit earlier. Example: Dash Hopes 3's very last note.

Ok, let's begin:

-> Minor flaws:

- "Isabel", Standard:
The notes 17th and 18th have their priorities inverted. The same happens after the main part of the song, the same way.
Solution: Catch the 17th note a bit earlier. You can still get a "Fantastic" from it. After you do, you can continue playing normally.

- "0x1311", Standard:
The notes: from 56th to 63th (8 pink notes), have their priorities inverted.
Solution: Try to catch every single note a bit earlier. You can still get "Fantastics" from them.
The notes: from 101st to 103rd (three red notes), have their priorities inverted.
Solution: Read above.

- "Seven Circles", Standard:
The notes: 263th and 264th (near the end of the song), have their priorities inverted.
Solution: Catch the 263th note a bit earlier. You can still get a "Fantastic" from it. After you do, you can continue playing normally.
Also, can anyone tell me why, when you score 100%, it actually shows 100.37%? o_O

- "Epileptic Crisis", Easy:
The notes: 82nd and 83rd (orange multi-tap notes), have their priorities inverted.
Solution: Try to catch the 82nd note a bit earlier. You can still get a "Fantastic" from it. After you do, you can continue playing normally.

-> Major flaws:

- "0x1311", Standard:
The notes: from 110th to 115th can't be caught properly.
Solution: Play it on Mouse/Tablet style. (I say that because I couldn't find any way to make it 100% with the keyboard. If someone could, please tell us how).

- "Epileptic Crisis", Standard:
The notes: from 130th to 146th (17 red multi-tap notes) can't be caught properly.
Solution: I actually couldn't find any way to make it 100%, using either the keyboard or the mouse. If someone could, please tell us how. (in the highscore table we can clearly see two people who could score 100%...)

PM me. ;)

TaroNuke responds:

Much of the standard charts were kind of rushed as you can see :(
Thanks for the in depth review! The way the sequel works, none of the notes have their priorities inverted. The sync is also a ton better.

Today (02/20/2012):

Personal record: 27 (fifth try).
Personal record with eyes closed: 12 (didn't try too much this way though).
Personal record of response time at 10 hits: 102.

One of the sequences I had to follow was Yellow, Blue, Yellow, Yellow, Yellow, Yellow, Yellow, Yellow, Yellow.

I play remembering the notes as groups of 4, and after hearing the whole sequence, I replay it following a fast but consistent rhythm for each group of notes. If I need to think the next pattern, I stop some milliseconds and continue.
It's not very good to try to do it very fast, after some time you may be not sure of the keys you have to press, or you can mess up yourself and end up mashing the arrow keys.

It would be nice if you added alternative controls (WASD keys), because the "up" arrow from my keyboard is broken, so I have to click the green button if I ever have to use it.
Also, I don't know whether the problem is my computer, my Internet connection or whatever, but I can't upload my highscores. I can't even see the scoreboard, and I want to know if I'm good at this or not! :(
Another flaw I found is that, if you lose, and press the "Play" button too early (when it's still "invisible"), that button (and the "Play more games" one too) will freeze, forcing you to refresh the page.

Despite those little points, the game is flawless as far as I could see. It's simple but cleverly designed, the graphics are excellent, and the atmosphere you created is perfect for this kind of games. The background sound also helps very much to focus on the game.

Thanks for filling a new space in my Favorite Games' list.
And kudos to MrRubix. o_O

Yeah!

Finally, I could do it!
When I played this game for the first time, I lost immediately.
Then, I read that playing "Music Stomp" first might help.
So I played it.
When I did it, I forgot this game. I began to play all your other games (Music Zap & Ping, Rhythm Blaster, Coolio DJ, and a looong etc...)
Then I found this game again. I remembered how those big pillars were scaring me at first, so I tried again (today).

First try: Reached second part of the song.
Second try: Reached third part of the song.
Third try: Reached fourth part of the song.
Fourth try: Reached just the first (I began losing 2 or 3 lives, so I restarted the game)
Fifth try: I DID IT.

But I can't submit my score of... uh...
Damn! I don't remember my score!

But well. It's true that Music Stomp was easier than this game (and that's great, since we aren't all good players).

So this game is great. It should have a score higher than 3.87, that's why I'll vote 5, and a ten from my review.

Thanks for entertaining me! (and for making me feel like a pro). ;)

Sooo cute! =3

Wow, this song is amazing... I'd love to give you a nice review of it, but having read so many long reviews, I don't know what to say... =(
I voted 5/5 (x5.02) and downloaded it, though. I'm planning to give you another vote tomorrow.
I think that this is your best composition ever. I liked it a little bit more than your Plains theme, that was already amazing.

Congrats for the 150 fans! You really deserve that. >:D

And remember that I really appreciate your notifications. You're a great musician, and I love hearing your creations.

Cheers,

BXXN.

P.S.: This new NG layout is dizzing me... @_@

Step responds:

Oops, I just realised that I didn't respond to this review... Sorry, I blame the new layout :3.

Thanks for reviewing!

Well, after SBB's three-account review, I don't blame you :P.

Aw thanks! I did consider the Plains Theme my best for a while, but I suppose I'm glad you think this is better in your opinion!

"Congrats for the 150 fans! You really deserve that. >:D"

Hehe, thank you! I'm up to nearly 170 now - the massive amount of support I'm getting from this song alone is just amazing.

That's really nice to hear. I'm very grateful for the support!

Lol, I don't blame you! Although I beta-tested it a few days before it was launched so I knew my way around when it got launched.

Anyhow, thanks again!

My 'New World'.

Although this is not my favorite music genre, I have to admit that you've done a great job here. This is the first time I get hooked to a song like this one.

The beginning is great; it starts quiet and softly, and the song builds up smoothly. That must be pretty hard to make, but knowing your other songs, I know you have skills at making music.
The bassline is very catchy, and I love the flute, especially when it does the "Bb - C - - Bb - C" notes. The piano fits perfectly well. I love pianos (I play the piano), and its notes are perfectly well placed.
This song has an unique ambience. It gives you such a great, relaxing feeling, as if you were dreaming endlessly; something that I've seldom experienced while listening to a song like this one.

A dream of a new world, something that starts being obscure, you don't know where you are, so you stand up and start your expedition. You're alone. There is almost no vegetation, just cactus and rocks. The wind is blowing strongly, the sand is flying and striking you, trying to stop you. But you don't listen to it. You just continue. You don't feel the force of the wind. You're being guided by your desire. The desire of finding the place where you're travelling to, despite of that you don't know where are you travelling to. You're just moving forwards. Because you know that, even if you have to travel for days, months, or years, if you keep the pace and don't give up, you'll get to the place where you've always wanted to be. Because, even in those moments where you say you would prefer to be dead, there is always hope. Because, instead of seeing the world's worst face, it's better to see its best face. Because that's the new world.

That's what I can imagine.

And I've been listening to this song for almost thirty minutes (while writing this review). Let's say that you've brought me to a new world for thirty minutes.

Thanks for notifying me of your new submission. You deserve the 10/10 and a 5/5 (x5.01) from me.

-------------------

And let's make a final question (destinated to anyone who wants to answer it).

¿What's your 'New World'?

Step responds:

Wow, thanks so much :D. I really appreciate the long review and writing the scene which this song made you imagine too!

This is the first time a song like this got you hooked? I'm impressed actually, songs like this get me hooked instantly. In any case I'm glad it interested you!

Intros are kinda hard, I agree. My biggest difficulty when making an intro is making the song start interestingly but still make sense along with the rest of the song. Intros aren't really my strong point.

I love pianos too. I've used a piano in loads of my submissions (and I play piano as well). I'm a sucker for its sound, diversity and the fact that it fits so well in so many genres.

The scene you wrote is awesome, I'm flattered that this song made you think all that!

Anyway, thanks for the large review. If I had the ability to add reviews to my favourites, I'd add this one!

Thanks again :3.
